Andy Powell is named Premier League Kicks Hero!

Our Saints Futsal coach, Andy Powell, has been named as Southampton FC’s Premier League Kicks Hero, to celebrate 10 years of the programme.

Premier League Kicks is a youth outreach programme with the aim to create safer, stronger and more respectful communities through the development of young peoples’ potential, whilst giving young people access to facilities, coaching and mentoring.

Andy’s Kicks journey began when he went down to Woodlands Community College to take part in the sessions being run by Saints Foundation. His involvement in the programme saw him take part in football and other sports run by the community team, and led to him going out in the local community encouraging young people to join the Kicks Programme.

Andy then started studying for the Saints Futsal and Education Scholarship, and after gaining the qualification now works as a Saints Foundation Futsal coach.

Southampton FC midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was on hand to present Andy with his Premier League Kicks Hero comic strip as part of the Premier League’s 10-year celebration of the programme.

On the Kicks programme and Andy’s success, he commented, “I think its a great initiative, and I have a lot of respect for what Andy has done and is doing for Kicks throughout his life and his career.”

Andy’s Premier League Kicks journey has been immortalised in the comic strip illustration designed by Marvel and DC Comics artist John McCrea. If you would like to see Andy’s animated journey from Kicks participant, to Kicks volunteer… to full-time Saints Futsal coach, follow this link.
