Callum Osborn: Progress Makes Perfect

Since it’s inception in 2011, Saints Foundation’s Education department has grown exponentially, and Callum Osborn is just one student who is reaping the benefits of the Foundation’s best-in-class delivery.

“I chose the BTEC course with Saints Foundation because it was a chance to study at a Premier League Football Club, something that I’d never heard of,” Callum said.

“The course suited me from an educational perspective, and the chance to play football and futsal representing Southampton was something that excited me.”

Callum is currently studying for his BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport at the home of Saint Foundation’s Education programme, St Mary’s Stadium, which for seven years has provided students with the platform to get into the sporting industry.

“When I first joined the programme I aspired to gain the knowledge that would help me get a job in sport, but as well as that I was interested in learning a new sport in Futsal, and developing my 11-a-side game through an elite programme.”

“The experiences I have gained through this course have been unique, I don’t think I would have been given these opportunities anywhere else.”

“I’ve been on tour to Holland, taken part in a training session with Saints legends like Matt Le Tissier, Franny Benali and Kelvin Davis, but the main highlight of my time on this course has been playing on the pitch at St Mary’s Stadium. It was an unforgettable experience.”

“Unique opportunities like these are so important for us as students, in terms of helping us with our development.”

Callum has cemented his place as an outstanding student in many ways, not least by making the step up to play for Saints Foundation’s National Futsal League team. He also capped an exceptional 2017/18 futsal season by being invited to take part in a National Futsal Allstars event at St Georges Park by the EFL Trust.

“Working with elite coaches during my time on the Foundation’s Education Programme has been massive for me, and it’s really helped shape my future aspirations.”

“In the future I want to be able to use what I have learnt from all these experiences to help teach others. Hopefully I can push on now and go on to coach within football or futsal, and I would love that to be with Saints Foundation.”

We’re recruiting students to join our 2018/19 BTEC in-take at St Mary’s, Fleet, Isle of Wight and Salisbury. If you’re still considering your options, or for more information, contact Mark Gamble at
