The Pitch: Saints Foundation launches new fundraising initiative

This month sees Saints Foundation, Solent University, Southampton Football Club and Drive Personnel team up for an exciting new initiative which gives students the opportunity to put their entrepreneurial expertise to the test and raise vital funds for Saints Foundation.

The Pitch will give teams of students the opportunity to present their business idea to a panel of judges to secure one of ten pots of £1,000 seed funding available. The successful teams will then have until May 2017 to turn their ideas into a reality and raise vital funds for Saints Foundation.

Amy Bennett, Fundraising Officer at the Foundation, said: “Saints Foundation is delighted to be working in partnership with Southampton Football Club, Drive Personnel and Solent University on this new and exciting project. In everything that we do, our mission is to inspire people of all ages and abilities to fulfil their potential. The Pitch will not only allow us to raise vital funds for Saints Foundation, but will provide valuable learning and development opportunities to students at Solent University.”

Event partner Drive Personnel is supporting The Pitch by providing seed funding totalling £10,000 Chris Bryant, Managing Director of Drive Personnel commented:

‘’Drive Personnel is a local business employing local people. Over the last fourteen years, local business Drive Personnel has become the number one supplier for HGV jobs in Southampton and is well known for employing local people. As such, supporting local good causes like Saints Foundation is right at the heart of what we are about. When we were approached about The Pitch, we couldn’t believe our luck, as not only did this allow us to support a local good cause, but it also gave us the opportunity to engage with aspiring local young talent from Solent University.’’

Students from the School of Business, Law and Communications have until Sunday 13th November to register their interest in taking part, after which they will be invited to an official launch day at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday 15th November, complete with workshops, lectures and plenty of information about the programme.

Gillian Saieva, Head of Business, Finance and Accounting at the University’s School of Business, Law and Communications, says it’s a great opportunity for students.

“The project fits really well with our own objectives and values as an organisation. We hold the student experience at the heart of everything we do, and this project will allow students – from local through to international – to all develop a sense of belonging to the city, which is an important part of the overall student experience. The teams have a real chance to think outside the box, to be innovative and creative and show how they can invest the £1,000 in order to deliver a return for the charity.”
